Stephen Joseph's Announcement To The Scarborough Theatre Trust Board

In a board meeting for Scarborough Theatre Trust on 9 July 1965, Stephen Joseph made the formal announcement that this would be the last season for the Library Theatre Trust and professional theatre would not return to Scarborough in 1966. The following are quotes from the minutes of the meeting.

Scarborough Theatre Trust: Minutes (9 July 1965)
"It was, he [Stephen Joseph] said, only the fact that the actors and staff worked for very low wages that it was possible to run the theatre in Scarborough.
"This year they could not run the full season (not commencing until 5 July).
"They had not received full support from the local authority; there was no chance of any expansion at the library and unless other premises were found it was doubtful the company would return in 1966."
